Re: Qualitative Analysis
1. SO2 and CO2
SO2 will reduce I2 from a solution (I2/KI/H2O):
I2 + SO2 + H2O = 2HI + H2SO4
(solution will become transparent)
2. O2 and NH3
NH3 will turn wet red litmus paper blue, since it's a base
3. Cl2 and H2O
Cl2 will oxidize I- in solution:
2KI + Cl2 = 2KCl + I2
(solution will turn brown)
SO2 will reduce I2 from a solution (I2/KI/H2O):
I2 + SO2 + H2O = 2HI + H2SO4
(solution will become transparent)
2. O2 and NH3
NH3 will turn wet red litmus paper blue, since it's a base
3. Cl2 and H2O
Cl2 will oxidize I- in solution:
2KI + Cl2 = 2KCl + I2
(solution will turn brown)
