are these possible

Post by zileselakovic »

I know Cu reacts with concentrated H2SO4 giving CuSo4, SO2 and H20, and that it melts in concentrated HCl (4HCl + Cu +O2 = CuCl4(-2) + 2H2O)

but are these possible?

CuO + H2SO4 = ? (it doesn't say it's concentrated acid)

HCl + Cu =? (it doesn't say that we can add anything)

Thank you!

Yes CuO is an oxide which easily dissolves in strong acids:
CuO + H2SO4 = CuSO4 + H2O

HCl + Cu =? (it doesn't say that we can add anything)
No. (at least without any external oxidizing agents)
