Oxides and hydroxides

Post by blorgho »

How can I quantify CaO and Ca(OH)2 in a paste at the same time, without the result giving me the total of both together? I have tried using XRD, but the matrix in my paste is too complex and the results overlap. Maybe I could try DTA but I think it would only be qualitative. TGA could give me the amount of all other hydroxides, but not Ca(OH)2 alone.

I just want to know how much CaO and how much Ca(OH)2 I have in this complex matrix, or just a method to identify and quantify hydroxides.

What else do you have in the matrix?
Can you heat it up and measure the amount of water which evaporates:

Code: Select all

Ca(OH)2 = CaO + H2O
