Cluster problems

Post by NothaShrubry »

I have a (B6)2- cluster... my sources tell me this is octahedral, but the linkages between borons would be quite strange in this structure for the relevant charge and valencies...

I tried applying Wade's rules for clusters to it (perhaps this was a silly idea?) and derived that it was nido... which means I need a 7-unit structure with one vertex missing. I tried this... but can only derive a pentagonal-based pyrimid, making the apical boron 5-coordinate...

Does anyone have any better ideas?
