finding pH on low concentration..

Post by transgalactic »

find the pH of HCl water solution in 10^(-7) concentration

usually i do

HCl+H_2O=Cl^(-)+H_3O^(+)

10^(-7) 0 0 before
0 10^(-7) 10^(-7) after

pH=-log[H_3O^(+)]

but here i was told that the concentration is too small and i need to involve
the breakdown of water H_2O + H_2O = H_3O^(+) +HO^(-)

how to do that??

what i need to do??
