How to make diethyl phthalate and cobalt 2-ethylhexanoate

Post by Thorntrike »

Hello, I'm making about alkyd paint and I need the industrial process to make these two compounds. I figured it out, but my teacher said I had to find the process on a source because the production may be different. Since this types of information are almost impossible to find, I would like to know if someone knows how to make it industrially. I made the process for diethyl phthalate like this:
benzene + chloromethanol-> benzene ring attached to CH2OH, then oxidize it to form a carboxylic acid (benzene ring attached to COOH), and finally react that with ethanol to make diethyl phthalate.

For the cobalt one, I made the following:
2-ethyl-1-hexanol oxidized to form CH3(CH2)3CH(C2H5)COOH, and then react that with Co(OH)2 to make Co[CH3(CH2)3CH(C2H5)COO]2

I'm not quite sure if the process is right though. I thank anyone in advance.
