Chlorine Hydrate

Cl2(g) + 7.3 H2O(l) → Cl2 · 7.3 H2O(s)

Is this equation right? In laboratory I made chlorine gas and then the gas flowed to a bottle with ice water where the chlorinehydrates were formed. The title of the experiment is indeed Cl2* 7.3 H2O so this has to be the product.

Thanks for your help!

No, chlorine reacts with water to hydrochloric acid HCl and hypochlorous acid HClO although hydrates are reported at low temperature.

Cl2 + H2O => HCl + HClO

It's chlorine not Chloride.

I actually did this equation in the third step. This is the whole procedure:

2 KMnO4 (s)+ 16 HCl(l)→ 5 Cl2(g)+ 2 MnCl2(aq) + 2 KCl(aq) + 8 H2O(l)
Cl2(g) + 7.3 H2O(l) → Cl2 · 7.3 H2O(s)
Cl2(g)+ H2O(l)→ HCl(aq)+ HOCl(aq)

And because there is Cl2 · 7.3 H2O formed, I thought I have to write an equation about this in the protocol

Why do you think it's 7.3 H2O.
In Literature the mixtures are different.

It was in my script like this.
