How to make Sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate

Hello;
I am trying to synthesize sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate from formaldehyde and sodium metabisulfite.
I know that when sodium metabisulfite dissolve in water it gives sodium bisulfite
Na2S2O5 + H2O → 2 Na + 2 HSO3
Then how can i synthesize sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate with 37% formaldehyde solution.
Thank you.

You mix equimolar amount of bisulfite powder and formaldehyde. Let it crystallize under a good ventilated hood.
NaHSO
3 + CH
2O => HOCH
2- SO
3 Na
It can be produced also as byproduct from Dithionite

The reaction of sodium metabisulfite with water yields sodium bisulfite, as I am aware.

Dear ChenBeier thank you for your reply.
Rongalite is a Sodium hydroxymethanesulfinate, I am trying to produce sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate.
Can I produce sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate from dithionite?

Got it @ ChenBeier.
Na
2S
2O
4 + 2 CH
2O + H
2O → HO-CH
2-SO
3Na + HO-CH
2-SO
2Na
Molecular weight of Na
2S
2O
4=174.1071 g/mol
Molecular weight of CH
2O=30.0260 g/mol
Molecular weight of HO-CH
2-SO
3Na =134.0869 g/mol
Molecular weight of HO-CH
2-SO
2Na =118.0875 g/mol
Then if I dissolve 100 grams Na
2S
2O
4 in water and add 34.4914 grams CH
2O I will get 77.0140 grams HO-CH
2-SO
3Na and 67.8246 grams HO-CH
2-SO
2Na

Na

2O
5 + H
2O → 2 Na+ + 2 HSO
3−
Molecular weight of Na
2S
2O
5=190.1065 g/mol
Molecular weight of NaHSO
3=104.0609 g/mol
Molecular weight of CH
2O=30.0260 g/mol
So if I dissolve 100 grams Na
2S
2O
5 in water, I will get 109.4764 grams NaHSO
3
Then I need to add 31.5886 grams formaldehyde to the mixture and I will get 141.065 grams CH
3NaO
4S
Is my calculations right

What about commercial formaldehyde solutions? Just noticed almost every brand have methanol in it as a stabilizer. Is methanol affect this reactions?
