(NH₂)₂CO + H₂O => 2 NH₃ + CO₂

Acetylacetone and ammonia give pentandionate and ammonium

CH₃COCH₂COCH₃ + NH₃ => CH₃COCH₂COCH₂- + NH₄+

The pentandionate react with the chromium-III

3 CH₃COCH₂COCH₂- + Cr 3+ => (CH₃COCH₂COCH₂)Cr
