I'm horrible with chemistry and the organic chem requirement for my biology degree is killing me. Please help me understand!

This is a reduction of the Keton. The Acetophenon will be transferred into 1-Phenyl-ethanol. Methanol is solvent.

C6H5CO-CH3 + 2 H => C6H5CHOH-CH3

The 2 H are coming from the NaBH4. Mechanismum see here
