Hi There,

What is the purpose of the citrate ions used when making gold nanoparticles? Is it to prevent continued growth of the nanoparticles? I'm trying to think of at least 2 reasons citrate is used?

Thanks

Citrate is an complex agent for gold ions. Immersion gold bathes also contain this beside cyanide.
