Hi There,

Could someone help me draw a mechanism for the reaction between tetrahydropyran and acetyl bromide?
Thanks :)

I think the slightly positive Carbon from the Acetyl will go to the Oxygen of the Pyran. The Bond to the Carbon of the ring will open and the negative Bromide will add to it.

(CH2)5O + CH3CO-Br => CH3COO-(CH2)5-Br

It will be 5-Brom-Pentylacetat.

Thank you! After pondering over it myself for awhile I came to the same conclusion :) Thanks.
