If magnesium ribbon is placed in warm aluminum sulfate solution, bubbles of gas are formed.

What is the gas that is formed?

Write 2 net ionic equations to explain what happens.

The equation I wrote down for the reaction between magnesium and aluminum sulfate is:
3Mg^2+ + Al(SO4)3 ---> 3MgSO4 (aq) + 2Al(OH)3 (s)

I believe this is incorrect. I can't figure out what the gas is. Please help!

Aluminiumsulfate has an acidic pH. The gas what will be developed is hydrogen.

Mg + 2 H+ => Mg 2+ + H2

Al 3+ + (3-n) H2O => Al(OH)(3-n)(n)+ + (3-n) H+, n = 0,1,2
