Cadmium Sulfide

Post by konqueror »

I am having problems with this synthesis.

CdCl2 + CS(NH2)2 +KOH + KNO3 =CdS + KNO3 + CO(NH2)2 + NH4Cl + H2O

How can I balance this equation?

The equation doesn't seem right to me. Where did the ammonium chloride come from? It couldn't have been from the reduction of potassium nitrate, because there isn't anything that got reduced. And the thiourea was apparently converted to urea, so it couldn't have come from it either.

I think that the correct equation is different, maybe something like
CdCl2 + CS(NH2)2 + 2 KOH = CdS + CO(NH2)2 + 2 KCl + H2O
