Electrolysis of molten NaOH

We all know that molten salt (NaCl) produces Metallic sodium and chlorine gas when under an electric current.

But what if you do the same with NaOH?

There happens to be no public documentation about the issue, and even if NaCl is cheaper, NaOH has a way lower melting point, which makes it way easier for some people to manipulate in order to obtain sodium.

I've done the experiment once, and obtained a grey substance that sparkled a little when thrown into water, but didn't quite have all sodium's properties.

Thanks in advance!
