Net Ionic Equation Help

Post by MRICHY »

Hello, I am having difficulty going through the process of finding the net ionic equation for a few solutions. Any help would be much appreciated.

1) KI+ZnSO4 -->
2) Pb(NO3)2+KI -->
3) AgNO3+ZnSO4 -->

hmmm net ionic equations... lets see..

KI + ZnSO4 ...... you see these are both salts so if anything would happen, it would be a displacement reaction, assuming this is in aqueous solution.. (they are not reacting because sulfate is not a "great" oxidizing agent, it is already very oxidized with a 2- charge. iodides' reduction potential is +.5 ish and because it is already "reduced" with a -1 charge, it can only become oxidized to I2. this means you would want it to go backwards, which would require at least .5v of potential from something.. Zn can't provide electrons because it is already +2)
this would depend on the solubility of the product.

ZnI seems like it would be much less, if not, very insoluble. So there is no redox rxn here, just a dbl displacement.
