Metals form a latice using the metalic bond. The same property that makes them electrically and thermally conductive.

The network of neuclei is thus embedded in a sea of electons.

Because these electrons are equally distributed across the surface of the mesh, and are hightly mobile rather than tightly bound, they absorb and reflects light evenly across the surface.
