Does Disolution reaction of CuFeS2 using FeCl3 needs water?

Post by JuanAnes »

Hi guys
I want to post this question here too

I have this equation and I want to know if water is needed in the left hand side of it

CuFeS2 + 4 FeCl3 = CuCl2 + 5 FeCl2 + 2 S

I hope this is ok, meaning that i posted this question in the two forums . I need some help please

thanks for your valuable help

Yes, this reaction definitely needs water although FeCl3 may come as a hydrate FeCl3*6H2O, and it that's the case, I can easily imagine how it would melt and then react without extra water.
Remember safety first! Check MSDS and consult with professionals before performing risky experiments.

what would it be?

thanks

so how would the equilibrium end after adding water in the left hand side?
which compunds would I get in the right hand side?

Thanks

You can balance without water but this reaction does need water for the reagents to react

Hi guys I just joined on this forums because I am studying to be a chemical engineer and there are some people here who seem very knowledgeable. Expert, can you please explain why it would need water to react? It might be a stupid answer staring me in the face, but I want to understand the subject wholly.
