Post by parisnicole1989 »

Hi. I need to write balanced equations for the following reactions.
hydrogen and potassium, hydrogen and fluorine, hydrogen and sulfur, white phosphorus with excess bromine, and excess white phosphorus with oxygen. Thanks! :D

Hydrogen + Potassium
H2 + 2K -> 2KH

Hydrogen + Fluorine
H2 + F2 -> 2HF

Hydrogen + Sulfur
H2 + S -> H2S

White Phosphorus with Excess Bromine
P4 + 6Br2 -> PBr3 (+ Any unreacted Br2)
OR
P4 + 10Br2 -> PBr5 (+ Any unreacted Br2)
(both possible depending on conditions and temperature also above 100 degrees C PBr5 decays to PBr3)

White Phosphorus + Oxygen
P4 + 5o2 -> P4O10 (+ Any unreacted P4)
In Physical Chemistry experiments must be reproducible, they should fail the same way each time
