Need help balancing because I have been trying for hours and it is just NOT working!!

It does not go like that.
it goes like this:

3 PbS + 8 HNO3 = 3 PbSO4 + 8 NO + 4 H2O

But its stated that the sulfide dissolves and produces the metal ion, sulfur, NO, and water, so that is how the equation was derived by the professor.

OK, if sulfur is not oxidized then it would be:
3 PbS + 8 HNO3 = 3 Pb(NO3)2 + 3 S + 2 NO + 4 H2O
