Impossible Reaction

Post by rocketry678 »

Why is BrCl2 + Al(OH3) = H2O + AlBr3 + Cl2 an impossible reaction. I am in 10th grade AP chemistry and we have to know why its an impossible reaction! Please help as soon as possible.

Thank you,

This is an impossible reaction because BrCl2 is an impossible compound. Please check the writing (maybe BaCl2?) and post your question in a Chemistry Discussion and Help forum http://www.webqc.org/chemicalforum/viewforum.php?f=10
Remember safety first! Check MSDS and consult with professionals before performing risky experiments.

Not BrCl but BaCl2
BrCl (bromine monochloride) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromine_monochloride is a known compound too while BrCl2 is unknown
Remember safety first! Check MSDS and consult with professionals before performing risky experiments.
