About sodium nitrite

Hi,during the processing of testing if the sodium nitrite have the oxidating ability to hydrogen sulfide converting to sulfur,should we use sodium sulfide solution replacing of hydrogen sulfide?Well,we've tried once to use sodium sulfide solution without getting the sulfur particle which confuses us.So here we want to get some help from you,hope expert could help us.Thanks!
