How is the volume of salt in the problem calculated?

Post by kocha2 »

Complete saponification of x mol of fat A in sufficient NaOH solution, yielding glycerol and salt mixture B. Complete combustion of x mol of A yields 2.55 mol of H2O and 2.75 mol of CO2. On the other hand, x mol A acts maximally with 0.1 mol Br2 in solution (solvent CCl4). Calculate the mass of salt mixture B.

Volume is not possible, only mass.

Start with equation of saponification and also combustion.

The moles CO2 refers of the amount of carbon and the water of the amount of hydrogen.

The saponification gives also the moles of glycerol , where you can calculate the Fragment what is going away in mass. The amount of fatty acids salt is 3 times. The moles bromine gives a hint of doublebonds.
