Copper - Triethanolamine Complex

Post by easypeasyac »

Hello;
I am triying to prepare copper - TEA complex.
I couldn't find complex ratio for copper - TEA. I want to use CuSO4*5H2O for as copper source. How many TEA do I need to use for each gram of CuSO4*5H2O?
Thank you for your helps.

TEA make only a Bis-complex with copper.

You need a ratio of 2:1 of moles TEA : Cu 2+

In mass

1 g CuSO4 × 5 H2O to 1,19 g TBA

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I have 85% TEA (v/v) solution in my hand. So I need to use 1.4 g of 85% TEA for each gram of CuSO4*5H2O. Is it right?

Is this princible (2:1) only valid for Cu+2 or, it is valid for every metal ions?

And what about for monoethanolamine and diethanolamine? Is same ratio 2:1 applicable for MEA:Cu+2 and DEA:Cu+2 ?

No, if you have 85% v/v then you have for 1 l solution 850 ml 100% TEA
850 ml has to be converted to mass by specific gravity.
This you have to be in ratio for further calculation.
All ethanol amines make bis complex to Cu 2+

What types of products can the complex replace?

Hello again;
What about for other metals such as iron, zinc, magnesium etc? Are these rule (2:1) valid for every metal?
Thank you.

Mostly the same, but also tetra and hexa complexes are possible.

Thank you @ChenBeier.
Do you know any source (pdf, article etc.) about ethanole amines - metal complexes? I can check about ratios.
