Simple way to confirm 2% Sodium Hydroxide solution (NaOH)

Post by DAVEY123UK »

Hey,

Could someone please explain how he or she would practically confirm a 2% Sodium hydroxide solution please?

What lab glassware would use?
What acid would you use and at what concentration?
What indicator would you use?
What volume would you use?
What calculation would you perform?

Simple step-by-step guide please for me to follow?

Thank you

Equippment Erlenmeyerflask 250ml and a Burette 25 ml, Pipette 10 ml
HCl 0,5 n
Phenolphthaleine indicator

Add 10 ml NaOH into the erlenmeyer flask, add some drops indicator and add 20 ml water.
Fill the burette with 0,5 n HCl
Titration by shaking the Erlenmeyer flask until the solution turn from pink to colourless.
Note the consumption of the HCl.
((VHCl *cHCl/VNaOH)* MNaOH/Rho)*100% = c%

2% NaOH is equal 20,41 g/l, specific gravity is 1,0207 g/ cm^3

Hello. Thank you, but I don't understand.

Add 10 ml 2% NaOH into the erlenmeyer flask, add some drops indicator. Why add 20mls of water?
Fill the burette with 0.5moles of HCl or 0.1moles HCL?

Titration by shaking the Erlenmeyer flask until the solution turn from pink to colourless.

Note the consumption of the HCl. How much should it take?

((VHCl *cHCl/VNaOH)* MNaOH/Rho)*100% = c%

Could you explain your equation please ?

Is VHCL = Volume of HCL
cHCL = concentration of HCL
VNaOH = Volume of Sodium hydroxide
MNaOH = what does this mean?
(Rho*100)= What does this mean?
c% = concentration percentage?

Sorry I don't understand your response. Please explain further.

Fill burette with 0.5 m HCl.
The water is add that the Erlenmeyerflask can be shaked easier and to see the liquid. 10 ml NaOH will be not seen, the Level is to low.

((VHCl *cHCl/VNaOH)* MNaOH/Rho)*100% = c%

Is VHCL = Volume of HCL yes
cHCL = concentration of HCL yes
VNaOH = Volume of Sodium hydroxide yes
MNaOH = what does this mean? Molar Mass of NaOH 40 g/mol
(Rho*100)= What does this mean? Specific gravity 100 for percentage
c% = concentration percentage yes

Thank you

Last question:

pp indicator is 1% or 50% or 100% is best?
