This is in reference to a rubber mat on the revolving platter of a turntable. The mat is very old, but is intact and has no cracks. It is somewhat flexible. I would like to make it considerable more flexible and pliable, without changing it's dimensions or stability. It is 4 mm thick by 29.3 cm in diameter. I'm looking for something to apply that would accomplish this. The rubber is black and might be of the silicone variety.
I've heard that brake fluid might work, but I've also heard that it might cause the rubber to swell. I'd be grateful for any guidance on this.
