Triphenylmethanol from Diethyl Carbonate Reaction Equation

Post by jcm206 »

Hi All,

I'm trying to find the balanced reaction equation (without pictures of the reactants/products) with the chemical formula for the following:

Diethyl Carbonate + 3 Phenylmagnesium=???

Here's what I have so far but I'm having trouble balancing the equation.

(CH3CH2O)2O + 3C6H5MgBr ---> (C6H5)3COH

How do I add the MgBr to the product side?

Some one please help me. :D

Do you know Grignard Reaction.

R-MgBr + R1R2CO => RR1R2C-OMgBr

With adding water RR1R2C-OMgBr + H2O => RR1R2C-OH + MgBrOH
