synthesis of hydroxyapatite

Post by paraskevi »

Goodday!!

Currently, I' ve seen on this site that it is
2 Na2HPO4 + 3 CaCl2 = Ca3(PO4)2 + 4 NaCl + 2 HCl.

I was wondering if (a) I use Na2HPO4.2H2O (dihydrate Na2HPO4) how the stoichiometry would be
and (b) in hydrated compounds as the above, does the H2O part play any role in the way each corresponding reaction is carried on? or do we just ignore the H2O molecules?

best regards!!

You have aqueous solutions. The crystal water of the hydrogen phosphate is already dissolved and the stoichiometry is the same.
