Balancing the equation for ammonium molybdate and phosphate

Post by evickye »

Can anyone help me to balance the equation for a compound containing phosphate reacting with ammonium molybdate?

No matter what combination I try I cannot make this balance. What I have so far is:

(NH4)6Mo7O24.4H2O + PO43- → (NH4)3[PO4(MoO3)12]

I'm not sure where I am going wrong, so if anyone can help that would be great!

You definitely need to add acidity and water to the equation also (NH4)3PO4.
Here is the answer:
(balanced equation)

Code: Select all

12 (NH4)6Mo7O24*(H2O)4 + 24 PO4{3-} + 72 H{+} = 7 (NH4)3[PO4(MoO3)12] + 84 H2O + 17 (NH4)3PO4
