Gas Volumes

Hi,
I'm really stuck and need to design an experiment which will allow me to measure the volume of a gas. I am trying to determine which of these equations is correct for the decomposition on heating for Copper Carbonate (CuCO₃):

Equation₁: 2CuCO₃(s) -> Cu₂O(s) + 2CO₂(g) + 1/2 O₂(g)

Equation₂: CuCO₃(s) -> CuO(s) + CO₂(g)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated asap
