Why is BrCl₂ + Al(OH₃) = H₂O + AlBr₃ + Cl₂ an impossible reaction. I am in 10th grade AP chemistry and we have to know why its an impossible reaction! Please help as soon as possible.

This is an impossible reaction because BrCl₂ is an impossible compound. Please check the writing (maybe BaCl₂?) and post your question in a Chemistry Discussion and Help forum http://www.webqc.org/chemicalforum/viewforum.php?f=10

Not BrCl but BaCl₂
BrCl (bromine monochloride) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromine_monochloride is a known compound too while BrCl₂ is unknown
