question

Post by mownvie »

Can anyone help me with this exercise?

trap the cat

X is HCl solution concentration x mol/l. Y is a solution of Na2CO3 concentration y mol/l. Slowly add 100 ml X to 100 ml Y, after the reactions, V1 liter of CO2 is obtained. Slowly add 100 ml of Y to 100 ml of X, after the reaction, V2 liters of CO2 are obtained. Know the ratio V1: V2= 4 : 7. Ratio x : y=?
A)11 : 7.
B)11 : 4.
C)7 : 5.
D)7 : 3.

This exercise is nonsense, because it doesn't matter if you add first 100 ml HCl to 100 ml Na2CO3 solution or wise versa. The volume of V1 is everytime equal of Volume of V2. It can never be different.

The reaction

Na2CO3 + 2 HCl => 2 NaCl + H2O + CO2
