Gas Laws Target Lab

Post by topg »

I am in AP Chem and have a target lab with no given procedure where the goal is to produce 45mL of hydrogen gas from a reaction of magnesium and 3M HCl. What calculations to find measurements of the reactants will ensure I produce 45mL, and what procedure should I follow for the lab?

1. Write down chemical equation
2. Read what is the mole ratio of Mg and H2
3. Calculate the mole of 45 ml H2 ( ideal gas law) and read how much Mg correspond.
4. Calculate mass of Mg
5. Do the same for HCl, use some excess of it.
5. This amount you put in a Apparatus to collect gases.
