Is there a solvent to dissolve nickel but not brass?

Post by JustAskin »

I am seeking a solvent that will dissolve nickel plating on brass parts, obviously removing the nickel and leaving the brass intact.

Does such a solvent exist? Is there a common solution?

Thank you!

You have Ni, and brass, what contains Cu and Zn. Ni and Zn are solouble in nonoxidative acids, like sulfuric or hydrochloric. Cu only in oxidative one like nitric. So try carefully with HCl . But brass will be attacked also. The surface will have pores later one.
