Balance the Reaction

Post by Abuzar Shahid »

I'm working on preparing CuS particles and having hard time balancing the reaction of:
Cu(CH3COO).2H2O + Na2S2O3.5H2O

Disproportion of thiosulfate

5H2O + S2O3 2- => 2 SO4 2- + 10 H+ + 8 e- Oxidation
6 H+ + S2O3 2- + 8 e- => 2 S 2- + 3 H2O Reduktion

2 H2O + 2 S2O3 2- => 2 SO4 2- + 2 S 2- + 4 H+ sum
H2O + S2O3 2- => SO4 2- + S 2- + 2 H+ divided by 2

The S 2- react with the Cu 2+ to CuS

Of course you have to do the right calculation. 1 g mono Hydrate is not the same like 1 g dihydrate. You have to convert the mass via the moles.
