magnesium carbonate reaction
Hi, I buy a powder containing magnesium carbonate and citric acid. When I add H2O, there is a reaction and fizz, but what are the resulting compounds? I can't balance the equation: MgCO3 + C6H8O7 + H2O =

Re: magnesium carbonate reaction
3 MgCO3 + 2 HOC3H4(COOH)3 => Mg3[HOC3H4(COO)3]2 + 3 H2O + 3 CO2

Wow, thanks! That's a lot more complex than I thought. What is the name of the resulting magnesium compound that I am consuming? It doesn't seem like plain old magnesium citrate.

Re: magnesium carbonate reaction
No it isn't, it is like in mathematics 1/2 + 1/3
How do you calculate it?
The citric acid has 3 H+ and the magnesium is Mg 2+
Now you have to combine it.
It is magnesium citrate nothing else.
