What is the purpose of sodium bisulfite in a Grignard reaction. And what would be the equation for it in a reaction?

It is to remove excess carbonyl compounds. It react to a Hydroxyalkylsulfonate
RR'CO + HSO3- => HO-RR'CSO3-
