Hi all . I have a substance mixture of : palladium(Pd)20% on carbon = 20%Pd/c and want to know how to refine it.
the element that i have is 20%Pd/c .

Burning at high temperature get PdO and CO2
Or dissolve in aqua regina get PdCl2 / Pd( NO3)2 filtering the carbon.

after filtering tha carbon i get dirty solution do you know what element do i need to recover(drop)Pd from dirty sulution . please if i am not clear i will explan better .

In which stage you filtered it. After reacting with Aqua Regina? How long was reacting time. Boiling under Reflux and how long?
The solution should be yellow to orange. If its still dirty then still carbon is present. The Filtration was not efficient.

Hi sir this is all that happend .
After we disband the material(20%Pd/c) into nitric acid we filter it using filtring paper than we added Dimethylglyoxime(photoNr.1) to precipitate(drop, separete) it .
Because this kind of component(photoNr.1) is not more founded what can we use instad of that.

That is not the answer of my question. Why is it still Black?
I told use aqua Regina. 3HCl/ 1HNO3 . HNO3 alone is to weak.
The precipitation with Dimethyldioxime make no sense. You want to obtain Pd and not a Pd complex. Add a reducer like NaBH4, sodiumborhydride, Na2S2O4 sodiumdithionite and others.

i talk to the chimist he said that we used as you told aqua regia and the structure of the solution is not black that was a misunderstanding the colour of the solution was yellow to red (like orange ). sorry for confusing !

Yes that is then right. Yellow- Orange solution is Pd2+ ions.
After filtering from carbon you can reducer it back to Black Palladium.

thanks for your help .
I want to ask you something is there any possible way to make NaBH4 or Na2S2O4 because as the component itself I cant find anywhere to buy in my country .

Not easy, need other chemical, maybe you also cannot buy. Vitamin C ( ascorbic acid) maybe an option.

Why not use electrolysis. Use a carbon cathode or other conductivity material and plate the Palladium on it.

want to be sure: so we need to dissolve in aqua regina than use electrolysis to get Pd for that we need carbon cathodes . And what type of anodes?

The solution has to be neutralized to pH 6 otherwise Palladium get dissolved again if to acidic, then take Graphite rods, maybe use a a copper bar, but then you have copper inside, from carbon its easier to remove.

Just to keep you informed we separete the aqua regia but we failed in electrolysis so we take the other part and added (Dimethylglyoxime C4H8N2O2 )because we cant find your acid and then after 24 hours we have this solution separated

Good, but what will be the next. You want to get metallic Palladium . Now you have the dimethylglyoxime palladium complex.
