Post by kamran_chemist »

I want to prepare 40 ppb chloride solution from solid sodium chloride. from where to start and how many dilutions I have to make to get 40ppb chloride.

I have lab grade dried NaCl salt and demineralized water

1 ppb = 1 part per billion. = 1 μg per kg ~ 1 μg per Liter
40 ppb Cl- = 66 ppb NaCl = 66 × 10^-6 g / Liter

Dissolve 6,6 g NaCl in 100 ml, Take 1 ml and add it again in 1 l water. The Concentration is now 66 mg/l. Take again 1 ml and add it in 1 l gives the final result of 66 μg/ l.

If you have smaller Pipette. Let say 100 μl or 250 μl then you can do 0,1 ml in 100 ml or 0,25 ml in 250 ml
