Alkali earth metals
Is there a defining characteristic of Alkaline earth metals and Alkali metals it seems that they are very similar but not grouped together what is the major difference between them? I mean they both are soft, reactive metals that produce Caustic hydroxides so what separates them?

Re: Alkali earth metals
Why you saying there not grouped togethrr. Of course they are grouped. Alkali metal group 1 and earth alkali metal group 2 in PSE.
The difference between both groups are that the cathion of group1 is Me+1 loose 1 electron and the one of group 2 is Me+2 looses 2 electrons.
