EQUATION FOR IRON OXIDATION IN GRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS

Post by CHEMNOOBIE1 »

Hello everyone,
I need help on getting balanced chemical equation for addition of HNO3 to FeSO4.7H2O , in order to pass from Fe2+ to Fe3+, so It could react with a precipitating agent. I'm not sure what would result of this. I think it'd produce Fe(NO3)3 and maybe H2SO4. The major problem is the fact that I don't know how is the reactivity for hydrated compounds.

Basicly Fe 2+ => Fe 3+ + e- Oxidation
HNO3 + 3 H+ + 3 e- => 2 H2O + NO Reduction
