Balancing Equations

Post by Seanm23 »

Instructions: Balance the equation with the lowest whole-number ratio.

1. ___C12H18N3O + ___O2 = ___CO2 + ___H2O + ___N2O5

2. ___UO2(NO3)2 = ___UO3 + ___NO2 + ___O2

what are the numbers that I would fill in?

First N2O5 will not be created in this case. It will only N2. N2O5 is very unstable.
But I show the calculation with N2O5
How to start
Use first 1

1 C12H18N3O + ___O2 = ___CO2 + ___H2O + ___N2O5
then look how much CO2 you can make 12. Water will be 9. N2O5 1.5

C12H18N3O + ___O2 = 12 CO2 + 9 H2O + 1.5 N2O5

Then calculate the oxygen 19.75

C12H18N3O + 19.75 O2 = 12 CO2 + 9H2O + 1.5 N2O5
Times 4

4 C12H18N3O + 79 O2 = 48 CO2 + 36 H2O + 6 N2O5
Try the other one by yourself.

2. __2_UO2(NO3)2 = _2__UO3 + _4__NO2 + _1__O2

This should be correct, I believe?
