Number of atoms/percentage in terms of mass

Post by Deborah »

Let's supose there is a lower pie where oxigen is drawn as a percentage in terms of number of atoms, then it's turn into percentage in terms of mass,My question is why would the oxigen get larger?it said it's because hydrogen atoms are ligther than the atoms of any other element but i don't really understand that.

I also dont know I got your question. Let say you have 1 mol hydrogen and 1 mol oxygen. The amount is in both cases the same. If you convert this to the mass then the oxygen is 16 times heavier as the hydrogen. Compare a apple with a pumpkin.
Youhave 10 of each. But the pumpkins are larger and heavier.
