Which of the following insoluble salts AgCl,Ag2CO3,Ag3PO4and/orAgBr 📖-- will be substantially more
soluble in 1.0 M HNO3 📖than in pure water?
My answer: CO₃²⁻ and PO₄³⁻ are conjugate bases of weak acids. and HNO3 📖 is a strong acid. Answer provided is
Ag2CO3,Ag3PO4 📖.How is that?

Re: Solubility and pH
Silver carbonate will decompose in nitric acid. Silver nitrate and carbon dioxide will be obtained This has good solubility. Silver phosphate will in low pH got hydrogenphosphate and dihydrogenphosphate which is also better soluble.
Silver halogenides not soluble in acid.
Silver halogenides not soluble in acid.

\(Ag_3PO_4 + HNO_3 \rightarrow AgNO_3 + Ag_2HPO_4\) Silver Hydrogen Phosphate will be formed.
