I need NaCN for an experiment.( I have all the required security equipment.) How can i get NaCN ( or KCN ) from K4Fe(CN)6 or K3Fe(CN)6 ?
I wouldn't like to handle HCN, but if it's the only way to make NaCN or KCN, then I have no choice.
I tried putting HCl on K4Fe(CN)6, and heating.
but I didn't get any HCN ( which I was going to reduce to NaCN with lye )
even if i should have ! ( K4Fe(CN)6 + 6 HCl = 6 HCN + 4 KCl + FeCl2 )
My safety equipment if good enough ( fumehood, respirator, body protection, gloves, and hand washing with acetone. ) but I can't make any HCN of NaCN..
Please help
P.
