Molecular Weight and Molecular Compound

Post by Stumped »

I am unable to get the correct answer on this problem. I have worked it out several times, but my answer is not one of the choices listed so I am interested in a step by step answer to this question so I can figure out what I am doing wrong.

A compound contains only nitrogen and hydrogen and is 87.4% nitrogen by mass. A gaseous sample of the compound has a density of .879 g/L at 639 torr and 100 degrees Celsius. What is the molecular weight and molecular formula of the compound?
