Phosphoric acid is used in manufacture of phenols for cleaning floors and in pesticides too. In fact people say that PEPSI AND cola contains this and it is very dangerous for health, especially for Pregnant ladies, this can make the child mentally disabled.

I doubt that it's true. Most likely a myth.

"Animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women OR no animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women."

The fear is probably based on dangerous teratogenic phosphorous compounds such as HMPA - nothing to do directly with phosphoric acid. Please provide a link, if you know.

Phosphoric acid is also used as a flux, sometimes in combination with alcohol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flux_(metallurgy)
Bulk of phosphoric acid is probably going to produce fertilizers.

"The manufacture of most commercial phosphate fertilizers begins with the production of phosphoric acid" http://www.extension.umn.edu/distributi ... C6288.html[/url]

So, they speculate that based on experiments with mice phosphoric acid reduces digestion of calcium which is important for development of fetus. My take on this is that any harm from a tiny amount of phosphoric acid in a Pepsi drink is negligible compare to other harmful ingredients like caffeine.

I dont think its negligible, i have seen people suffering from bone diseases ( the bones have become brittle)... they used to drink cola like water and i dont know about other things..

Sorry, I forgot that people drink decaf. Then phosphoric acid could be significant among other potentially harmful ingreduents.
