Thank you for taking the time to reply with your assistance. I've been discovering how creative chemists are. I stumbled on the Merck patent of 1912 - I wonder why it isn't more widely used? It appears easy and lots of fun.

SYNTAX

When chemists write such things as: 1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2-bromopropane

do they mean a combination of:
3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl (x1)

bromopropane (x2)
