What do parentheses mean when balancing a chemical equation?

ex; AgNo₃+MgCl₂=AgCl+Mg(NO₃)₂

(NO₃) means two NO₃ groups. N₂O₆ would do the same in the formal equations but you loose useful information that you actually have two nitro groups.
