I am trying to balance this equation and this is ALL the book tells us: CO₂ + HCl. Maybe I am missing the boat but can anyone help please??

Yes, you are missing the boat because CO₂ and HCl are apparently the products of a reaction, not reactants. CO₂ and HCl simply do not react.
